With Search Engine Optimisation and Marketing we have a simple goal in mind: people interested in your site and services should find you easily. The benefits of an SEO/SEM campaign are clearly increased foot fall, more eyeballs and ultimately increased sales.
When implementing an online marketing strategy our efforts are focused on the following areas of activities
> Keywords
> Search Engine Optimisation ("SEO")
> Search Engine Marketing ("SEM")
Keywords
Keywords (and keyphrases) are the words that potential visitors to your web site use for when searching on the internet. For example, when a user is looking to find a company that sells Irish Chocolate, they might simply type "Irish Chocolates" into Google (or their favourite search engine, the other main ones being Yahoo! and MSNSearch). These are search terms (or keywords). The first stage of our online marketing campaign, therefore, is to agree a list of keywords for your site (we can usually find at least 100 but we usually agree a list of about 10 or 20 that we can focus on).
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
SEO refers to how we optimise your web site so that the search engines can find your site and presents it so searchers when they type in the keywords into Google (and the othersearch engines). Properly implemented SEO increases "rankings" on the search engine results (i.e. we want to have your site listed as close to the top of the search results list as possible). Various activities and tactics are used when implementing an SEO strategy. These include (but are not limited to) keyword population, page density analysis, inbound linking, alt-tags, title bar optimisation. Some of these activities should be included at the time of the development of the web site while others are implemented as a longer term strategy.
Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
SEM refers to the "paid for" advertising within the results of a search. Because SEM is a "paid for" listing, it is possible to betop of the ranking immediately however, to remain top of thelist on the "paid for" advertising can become costly. SEM isoften implemented in conjunction with SEO. An SEO strategy can now take up to 6 months to take full effect. We would therefore recommend implementing an SEM campaign to ensure you always appear in the results of the search. This can be done for the company in general or for specific campaigns (or a mixture of both). We take a focused approach with our clients encouraging them to develope landing pages (or marketing pages), populated with the keywords and SEO implemented to drive specific business to those specialist areas.
