As I am sure you know, the Digital Marketing Institute offers the Diploma in Online & Digital Marketing course in two options
- 12 Week Part Time course, comprising 12 @ 3 hour lectures between 6.30pm and 9.30pm (the day of the week varies, usually taking place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays)
- 1 Week Full Time that is run Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.15pm each day for 1 week.
(Of course, the course content is the same for both options).
This Diploma course is delivered by some of the leading exerts in the country in the digital marketing sector. This includes online marketing professionals who either run their own business and senior managers within their company.
We are often asked (and I mean just about every day!) which option is more suitable. Well, in all honesty, we cannot answer that for you .
One would think that the answer is simple - people who attend the 12 Week Part Time course are working in full-time jobs and those who take the Full Time 1 Week Diploma are unemployed. NOT SO!
Quite often, a business simply cannot wait the 12 weeks for their staff to learn everything about digital marketing so they elect to send them on the 1 Week full time course. Also, it is quite often the MD or the CEO who elect to attend the course (to check it out, as it were!). However, we often find that it is "junior" marketer who first attends the course - this is then followed up by the senior staff taking part. For example, we recently had one person from a large multinational attend the Boot Camp only to be followed by a further 5 from the same company!
Of course, we are all busy folks, so it is often the case that we simply do not have the time available to take a "week off". These folks tend to take the evening course. However, we are always amazed at the number of people who take the evening course for other reasons - working full time, minding kids (!) or even they just prefer the night time!
Which are you ?
Now, here's a thing. If you are in the market for a Digital Marketing Training course, then you will have also come across the Fitzwilliam Institute. These folks (and I am sure that they deliver an OK course) only offer their course in the evenings - no daytime option. So, there's your choice perhaps made right there!
(I should state here and now that I used to lecture for Fitzwilliam - in fact I advised them on their syllabus!)
You choose
All the best for now.
Following on from our initial Review of the iPad and its impact on Digital Marketing, a new report looks at how the iPad will cause the entertainment, publishing and information industries to undergo a radical paradigm shift in their methods of delivering entertainment and information to consumers. A new report from Rider Research maintains that Apple has created a leisure media device that consumers can use throughout the home: for reading books, playing movies and music or as an instruction manual for home repairs or cooking.
Geoff Whiting, who prepared the report, says, “Studios, TV networks and magazine/newspaper publishers are no longer limited to immobile TV sets, mobile phones with tiny screens or PCs that place entertainment in a secondary role.” Instead, the major TV networks, online video services, newspapers, magazines and book publishers will use the iPad as a hybrid TV/PC. Its Wi-Fi and soon its 3G cellular network connections will enable consumers to bypass set-top boxes, media players and the accompanying wires. The 3G version does not require the user to have a broadband connection, a modem, a router or a PC.

ICT players Microsoft, Dell, IBM, Siemens, Eircom and Lionbridge have warned that reskilling and training are crucial to secure the 80,000 jobs outlined in the Government’s green strategy.
The companies who sit on the board of Fastrack to IT (FIT), an innovative programme now in its 10th year, focused on returning long-term unemployed individuals to the workforce, say that in one niche alone – wind turbine maintenance – as many as 1,500 jobs could be created.
Government announcement welcome
The group welcomed the Government’s announcement that 80,000 jobs could be created through the emerging green economy sector they but highlighted the point that these jobs are of no use unless Irish people have the skills to work in them.
FIT in partnership with industry, government, education and training providers, mainly FAS and the VECs, as well as with local development agencies, has successfully trained 8,000 long-term unemployed people over the past decade.
The Digital Marketing Institute is also playing it’s part - during the coming year, the company, Ireland’s only training firm specialising in digital marketing, is expecting to re-skill up to 500 marketing professionals in Ireland and UK.
