Stewart Curry, design director for X Communications, is co-ordinating an excellent chatrity event taking place in November. Called “24 The Web“, this is a 24-hour web design challenge in which teams building a website for a charity. The point of the chaallenge is to highlight the importance of design, standards, content and process in developing a site, in a fun and challenging way.
The challenge takes place over a 24-hour period over 13th and 14th November.
24 The Web is still seeking submissions from both charities and volunteers alike.
There will be three teams of volunteers, each consisting of seven people, in the following roles: designer, programmer, content writer, IA/UX, HTML/CSS coder, project manager and a wildcard participant (that’s all we’re told!). You can apply as teams or as groups of two or three and we’ll try and mix and match. People will be selected based on portfolio and/or experience, and whether they are applying as a group.
From the 24 The Web (for Charities interested in entering):
We’ll be looking for charities that need a website and meet the following requirements:
- You could never afford a website in a million years. (If you can afford one, hire a reputable designer/agency and have them build one for you – it’s a smart investment.) Plus we don’t want to take work away from people.
- You have great content – photos, stories and copy. (We only have 24 hours so we need a decent amount of material to work with – remember you may need permission if you’ve pictures of children.)
- You have someone who will keep your site up-to-date in the future. (We want to make you a living site that works hard for you.)
We can only pick three charities so please don’t be disappointed if you’re not selected.
